Squirt, 2018 (London Lightning Fastball)

Lightning Squirt enjoyed a successful weekend at one of three provincial qualifiers, earning a spot in the Provincial "A" Championships to be held 17-19 in Windsor, Ontario.

Squirt has completed a fantastic season of league play. A regular season record of 19-2-1 vaulted the girls into first place winning the 2018 Grand Valley Ladies Softball Association Squirt division and earning them the coveted pennant. Playoffs were held July 28-29 and the Lightning earned a spot in the Championship game. The girls battled back and forth with Six Nations in an uncharacteristically low scoring game, with Six Nations coming from behind to win 5-4 in seven hard fought innings. London Lightning Squirt spent a hot and humid weekend in Chatham, going 3-1 in round robin play and then earning gold medals in a closely fought championship game!

Congratulations to the Squirt team on earning silver at the 2018 Port Perry Angels tournament. A strong 3-1 record through round robin play earned the team a semi-final berth where they dispatched the host Port Perry Angels 06 team 4-0 in a fantastic 7 inning game, our first of the season. That left a tough championship match-up against the vaunted Aurora Diggers 06 squad, who defeated our girls in round robin plan. Little changed as our opponents, who have to be in the conversation for a medal this year at A championships, brought dominant pitching and a solid lineup for a 9-0 victory, ...

The 2018 Squirt team has kicked off its season in true style with a 4-1 record on opening weekend. The team was selected in the fall as a brand new team with just two returning players as most of last year's team moved up to Novice. Coach Trevor and the girls worked hard all winter with the goal of not just coming together as a competitive team, but being ready to compete in every game this summer. Early success in four exhibition games had us all hoping that what we saw from the arms, bats, gloves and base running were for real... but exhibition games can be deceiving.
