2018 Squirt... has arrived!
The 2018 Squirt team has kicked off its season in true style with a 4-1 record on opening weekend. The team was selected in the fall as a brand new team with just two returning players as most of last year's team moved up to Novice. Coach Trevor and the girls worked hard all winter with the goal of not just coming together as a competitive team, but being ready to compete in every game this summer. Early success in four exhibition games had us all hoping that what we saw from the arms, bats, gloves and base running were for real... but exhibition games can be deceiving.

Or not. Coaches Trevor, Dean and Tracy were thrilled to see the girls open their season with 4 wins and just 1 nail biter of a loss. Solid wins on Saturday over Guelph (9-5) and Kitchener White (10-4) got the girls' confidence rolling before running into a tough Six Nations squad who handed us a 14-13 loss and sapped much of the girls' energy. Undaunted, the girls came back with renewed spirits on Sunday and posted a pair of dominant victories over Waterloo Gold (13-4) and Palmerston (18-8).This was a true team effort. Every girl got at least one hit, reached base at least twice, scored at least two runs and drove in at least one. Larceny charges are pending after all the stolen bases! The girls collectively made a ton of great fielding plays (and their fair share of errors, as expected this early in the season). Pitchers and catchers excelled and we simply dominated on the base paths.

A winter's worth of hard work has paid off early. The season has only just begun and this team will most certainly continue to get stronger. Well done Squirt. GO LIGHTNING GO!!!
