Lightning Intermediates Stopped by the Rain in Ancaster
The London Lightning Intermediates spent June 17-18 in Ancaster, competing in the Tier II division of the Cam Mitchell Memorial Tournament.
After going 4-0 in round robin play with wins over Brampton Blazers 9-1, Owen Sound 9-2, Hamilton Crusaders 8-3 and LaSalle Athletics 11-1; the team earned the number one seed for the championship round.
In a 1 versus 4 match the Lightning went up against the Oakville Angels. London jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. Extended that to 5-0 after three, and added singles in the fourth and fifth to secure a 7-0 victory and a birth in the gold medal game.
Unfortunately, about 45 minutes before the final game, the skies opened up and washed away the remainder of the tournament. A disappointing end to a great weekend that saw the team go 5-0, outscore their opponents 44-7, and be the only team in the division to go undefeated.
